The Amnesia Machinery
The Claim
The machinery of forgetting, as the book describes it, works like this. When an IS-BE dies, electronic force screens detect the departing being. An "electronic net" captures it. Then come "billions of volts" of shock, wiping all memory and identity. Post-hypnotic commands are installed: false memories, a false orientation in time, and the order to "return to the light" — which the book calls hypnotic treachery, a lure back into the capture grid. Reincarnation follows: "again, and again, again — forever." The book says underground amnesia stations running this process still operate on Mars, in the Rwenzori Mountains, in the Pyrenees, and on the Mongolian steppes. [CLAIMED.]
One firm boundary, stated once and kept: this fictional machinery has nothing to do with electroconvulsive therapy, a real, regulated medical treatment. They share a word — shock — and nothing else. Never conflate them.
The Verdict
case openThe anchor here is thin but real: memory science exists. Researchers can blunt the emotional charge of memories; optogenetics can toggle memory traces in mice. What is verified: none of that erases identity, and nothing in the literature resembles billion-volt soul-capture screens. The book's mechanism has no verified analogue — and I say that plainly, because the honest gap is the story. Four station locations are named, which means four falsifiable predictions. Geology is not architecture. Until a mission resolves something that is not a crater, the file stays open — and the machinery stays claimed. What do you think? *wink*
