'Science Is the Religion of Matter'

The materialism critique, held as philosophy — interesting without being true.
Insidercase open

The Claim

The book's critique of science is a single sharp sentence: "Science is the religion of matter. It worships matter." Materialist science, it says, ignores the creative IS-BE — and the Old Empire deliberately instilled this ignorance so beings could never recover their creative abilities. Paired with it, religion: "The paradigm of science is that creation is all, and the creator is nothing. Religion says the creator is all, and the creation is nothing. These two extremes are the bars of a prison cell." [CLAIMED.]

It is, I will admit, a well-made sentence. "The prison is made of shadows in your mind," the book says — shadows of lies, pain, loss, and fear. As rhetoric, it lands. As method, it needs examining, because a critique of science is not itself science, and the file knows the difference.

The Verdict

case open

Hold both, the way the file demands. As philosophy, the critique is interesting: science does bracket the subjective, and a science of the IS-BE would be a different enterprise. As evidence, it is empty — it explains no data and predicts no outcome. My test: what experiment would falsify the book's alternative? If no one can answer, it is not a research program; it is a sermon. Labeled as such. I keep the file open because the question underneath — what a science that took consciousness as primary would look like — is worth asking. The book's answer, though, is asserted, not demonstrated. CASE OPEN on the question; the answer stays claimed. What do you think? *wink*
